Meiotic analysis of the Lolium perenne/Festuca pratensis triploid hybrid
Article Abstract:
Lolium perenne/Lolium perenne/Festuca pratensis triploid hybrids are potentially an important source of material for finding the ways in which genetic maps relate to physical maps. Evolutionarily, the relationship of L. perenne (Lp) to F. pratensis (Fp) is not clear. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) and a mathematical model have been used to analyze metaphase I in meiocytes of an LpLpFp triploid hybrid. Recombination takes place preferentially between the homologous Lp genomes in the LpLpFp triploid and the genomes have diverged. Direct analysis and mathematical analysis were broadly consistent. The model is thus valid as a means for assessment of chromosome pairing in such hybrids.

Chromosome pairing in Loloium perenne x L. temulentum diploid hybrids, genetic and cytogenetic evaluation
Article Abstract:
Chromosome pairing in Loloium perenne x L. temulentum diploid hybrids is discussed with genetic and cytogenetic evaluation. One genotype was selected for low chiasma frequency over numerous generations and was thought to contain one or two heterozygous dominant genes with a significant effect on chiasma frequency. Findings indicate control of paired-arm (PA) frequency in E5/2/5/10 was not a simple genetic mechanism.

Introgression mapping in the grasses. I. Introgression of Festuca pratensis chromosomes and chromosomes segments into Lolium perenne
Article Abstract:
Lolium perenne, Festuca pratensis, and triploid hybrids were produced and backcrossed to Lolium perenne. The BC progeny, which has 14 chromosomes, were analyzed using genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) and genetic markers. GISH showed that over 74% of the BC individuals carry one or more F. pratensis chromosome segments. By comparing them, it is possible to determine the physical position of genetic markers.
