Meiotic nondisjunction and recombination of chromosome III and homologous fragments in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Article Abstract:
A strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae which allow for the assay of nondisjunction of the third chromosome during the first reduction division is developed. Two chromosome fragments fromchromosome III was found to greatly enhance nondisjunction of the same chromosome in the receptor yeast. Disomics resulting from the nondisjunction did not contain the fragment. Recombination between homologous chromosome amongdisomics was rare. In contrast, recombination between a chromosome fragment andchromosome III is frequent.

The rec102 mutant of yeast is defective in meiotic recombination and chromosome synapsis
Article Abstract:
Previous investigations identified a yeast gene, REC102, which when mutated, eliminates meiotic gene conversion and reduces intergenic meiotic recombination. Further analyses of REC102 were conducted, resulting in the identification of reciprocal crossover defects in rec102 mutants. Furthermore, the rec102 mutation could improve spore viability in a spo13 diploid background. These results indicate that REC102 is involved in meiotic recombination and chromosome synapsis.

The sep1 mutant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae arrests in pachytene and is deficient in meiotic recombination
Article Abstract:
Investigation of the ability of the Sep1 mutant to undergo meiosis I prophase and meiotic recombination reveals that the gene conversion approaches the wild type levels and the accumulation of recombinants occurred at a slow rate in the mutant. The homologous pairing of DNA is facilitated by Sep1. The pleiotrophic phenotype is exhibited by this mutant in vegetative and meiotic cells.
