Biodegradation of cis-1,4-polyisoprene rubbers by distinct actinomycetes: microbial strategies and detailed surface analysis
Article Abstract:
Actinomycetes appear to have two different strategies when degrading natural and synthetic rubber. Some adhere directly to the rubber and merge into it whereas others produce mycelial corridors. An oxidative attack on the cis-1,4 double conds is the first step in the biodegradation process.

Microbial degradation of the multiply branched alkane 2,6,10,15,19,23-hexamethyltetracosane (squalane) by Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium ratisbonense
Article Abstract:
Results show that axenic cultures of the two Mycobacterial species, fortuitum and ratisbonense, are capable of biodegrading squalane. Data further show that the degradation pathway involves beta-oxidation as indicated by acrylic acid inhibition of the squalane and squalene degradation.

Neutral lipid biosynthesis in engineered escherichia coli: Jojoba oil-like wax esters and fatty acid butyl esters
Article Abstract:
A chemical composition very similar to the wax esters produced by the jojoba plant can be produced in a recombinant Escherichia coli strain by using saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids derived from the genus Acinetobacter. Thus, Acinetobacter can become an alternative source for the production of jojoba-like wax esters.
