Mitochondrial death throes: Knockout mice reveal a path to necrosis
Article Abstract:
Studies indicate that the mitochondrial protein cyclophilin D (CyPD) could mediate the transition to mitochondrial permeability that leads to necrotic cell death. Mitochondria in cancer cells have shown strong resistance to calcium ions and do not easily open their necrotic pores, a characteristic which could be used to make drugs that target the cancer mitochondria and leave the regular mitochondria alone.

The functions and the T cell lineage suppression of the newly developed class of T helper cell, [T.sub.H]17 cells are discussed. The cell is found to be helpful in recognizing and extenuating the tumor growth in humans.
