Mouse egg integrin alpha 6 beta 1 functions as a sperm receptor
Article Abstract:
The integrin, alpha 6 beta 1, on the egg plasma membrane acts as a receptor to bring about cell-cell adhesion for sperm-egg binding. Fertilization in mammals involves many cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, the binding of egg and sperm plasma membranes being an important step. Fertilin, a mammalian sperm surface membrane protein interacts with alpha 6 beta 1 to form a ligand as it has an integrin ligand domain. The presence of fertilin homologs in lower eukaryotes is, however, uncertain.

Similar structural models of the transmembrane proteins of Ebola and avian sarcoma viruses
Article Abstract:
The Retrovirus and Filoviridae viruses exhibit a similar genomic structure and replication process. The Rous sarcoma viruses (RSV) have a carboxy-terminal 181 amino acid region in the transmembrane that is similar to the Ebola glycoprotein. The RSV and Ebola viruses have identical 42 amino acids in the helical HIV gp2 region. The carboxy-terminal transmembrane regions of RSV and the Ebola glycoproteins have similar viral entry and cytopathogenicity functions.

The ABC of channel regulation
Article Abstract:
Many ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters regulate channel activity irrespective of their normal transporter/channel activity, and in some cases they also regulate membrane-associated proteins. The physiological aspects of these regulatory events signify the need of tracing the mechanism of these regulatory phenomenon. The regulatory function of the Cl(super -) channel cystic fibrosis transmembrane gene product, CFTR is discussed.
