Multiple paternity in Atlantic salmon: a way to maintain genetic variability in relicted populations
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to characterize the genetic aspects of progeny of Atlantic salmon from a single redd. Single-locus minisatellite DNA probes were utilized for percentage analysis. Total genomic DnA was isolated from white muscle based on the protocol by J.B. Taggart et al. Results indicated that multiple paternity can be used to to increase the effective population size of Atlantic salmon and support genetic variability in populations with a minimized number of adults.

A critical review of adaptive genetic variation in Atlantic salmon: implication for conservation
Article Abstract:
The adaptive variation in Atlantic salmon is analyzed on the basis of heritable variation in phenotypic traits related to fitness, genetic variation at the molecular level as an effect of selection and variation in the gene-environment interaction giving rise to different phenotypes. This gives an insight to the understanding of adaptations in different environmental conditions and the conservation of salmon

Interaction of Rearing Environment and Reproductive Tactic on Gene Expression Profiles in Atlantic Salmon
Article Abstract:
Brain gene expression profiles of Atlantic salmon are examined to determine the influence of rearing environment - either laboratory conditions or natural stream - and two types of male reproductive tactics. Rearing environment was solely responsible in the expression of certain genes, while expression of others varied between reproductive tactics exclusive of rearing environment.
