Neomycin resistance as a selectable marker in Methanococcus maripaludis
Article Abstract:
The neomycin resistance induced by the expression of the aminoglycoside phosphotransferase genes, APH3'I and APH3'II, can be used as a marker for the genetic studies of Methanococcus maripaludis. The genes are present between the methyl reductase promoter and terminator of a plasmid. The plasmids encoding neomycin resistance in transformed M. maripaludis appear at frequencies similar to those for pKAS102 encoding puromycin resistance. The eukaryotic antibiotic geneticin has no inhibitory activity against M. maripaludis.

Detection of tetracycline resistance determinants in pig isolates from three herds with different histories of antimicrobial agent exposure
Article Abstract:
The distribution of tetracycline resistance determinants in isolates from pigs in three herds with different histories of antibiotic use was compared. It was found that TetB was the predominant determinant in isolates from pigs exposed to antimicrobial agents, whereas TetC and TetE were the most common determinants on plasmids and chromosomes, respectively, for isolates from pigs in a herd not exposed to antimicrobial agents for more than 146 months.

Genetic control of resistance to the sterol 14alpha-demethylase inhibitor fungicide prochloraz in the cereal eyespot pathogen Tapesia yallundae
Article Abstract:
The genes for resistance to the fungicide prochloraz in Tapesia yallundae reside at the same locus and are consequently allelic. Prochloraz belongs to the largest and most effective group of fungicides but at least 13 species of plant pathogen are developing resistance to it.
