New insights into type II NAD (P) H: Quinone oxidoreductases
Article Abstract:
The NADH: quinone oxidoreductase is the largest complex of the respiratory chain and is responsible for the transfer of electrons from NADH to quinones, coupled with proton or sodium translocation across the membrane. Type II NADH: quinone oxidoreductases are usually present in the electron transfer chains of bacteria as well as in eukaryotic organisms from the fungal and the plant kingdoms.

The prokaryote-eukaryote dichotomy: Meaning and mythology
Article Abstract:
An overview to understand how the prokaryote-eukaryote dichotomy was constructed, the purposes it served and what it implied in terms of classification and phylogeny is presented. The great historical irony that the 'prokaryote', in both its organizational and phylogenetic senses, was defined negatively on the basis of structure is examined.

Type V Protein secretion pathway: The autotransporter story
Article Abstract:
The simplest protein secretion mechanisms are those included within the type V secretion. Secreted proteins include those secreted via the autotransporter system, the two-partner secretion pathway, and the recently described type Vc system.
