Novel DNA sequences from natural strains of the nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti
Article Abstract:
A study used representational difference analysis to identify potentially novel sequences not present in the sequenced laboratory strain Rm1021 of the nitrogen-fixing bacterium Sinorhizobium meliloti. The results suggest potentially high rates of gene gain and loss in Sinorhizobium meliloti genomes.

An integrated approach to functional genomics: Construction of a novel reporter gene fusion library for Sinorhizobium meliloti
Article Abstract:
A robust transcription fusion reporter vector is developed to measure gene expression in bacteria as a means of investigating gene function. The vector, pTH1622, is used to construct a random insert library for the Sinorhizobium meliloti genome.

The characterization of the protocatechuate branch of the [beta]-ketoadipate pathway in Sinorhizobium meliloti is reported. The analysis offers an opportunity for comparison with related species, including Agroacterium tumefaciens.
