Oligonucleotide array for identification and detection of Pythium species
Article Abstract:
A DNA array containing 1782 oligonucleotides complementary to specific diagnostic regions of internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of more than 100 species is developed for indentification and detection of Pythium species. All of the species studied, with the exception of Pythium ostracodes, exhibited a positive hybridization reaction with at least one corresponding species-specific oligonuleotide.

Development and evaluation of methods to detect nucleopolyhedroviruses in Larvae of the Douglas-Fir Tussock moth, Orgyia pseudotsugata (McDunnough)
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to detect Orgyia pseudotsugata multiple nucleopolyhderovirus (OpMNPV) in Douglas-fir tussock moth larvae by using Southern hybridization, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and a novel DNA extraction/PCR assay. Southern hybridization and ELISA were found to be relatively sensitive methods for detecting baculovirus PIBs and virus infections.

Identification of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki, strain HD1-like bacteria from environmental and human samples after aerial spraying of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, with Foray 48B
Article Abstract:
Insecticide sprays containing Bacillus thuringiensis can enter the nasal passages of humans who are exposed to the sprays, even if they live outside the spray zone. This was the conclusion of researchers who took samples of air, water, and nasal secretions after an aerial spray with Foray 48B in Victoria, British Columbia to control gypsy moths.
