Pathogen survival in the external environment and the evolution of virulence
Article Abstract:
The correlation between virulence and durability explains three to four times of magnitude of difference in mean percent mortality and mean survival time, using both across-species and phylogenetically controlled analyses. Some of the findings on several areas of active research and public policy, which include studies on food-borne and insect pathogens and other relative topics, are mentioned.

The functions of societies and the evolution of group living: Spider societies as a test case
Article Abstract:
A study of the functions of societies and the evolution of group living using spider societies as a test case is presented. It is found that the group characteristics of eusocial insects are governed by the reproductive function of their groups, while those of social spiders are largely governed by the foraging function of the group.
