Periplasmic cyclic 1,2-beta-glucan in Brucella spp. is not osmoregulated
Article Abstract:
Contrary to the species of the genera Agrobacterium and Rhizobium, it was demonstrated that the accumulation of periplasmic cyclic 1,2-beta-glucan in Brucella ovis and B. abortus was not osmoregulated. Permeabilized cells were used as enzyme preparation, and showed that factors that were lost or inactivated in membrane preparation were required for the effective regulation between elongation and cyclization reactions. The presence of cyclic-beta glucans was suggested to have a function in bacteria-eukaryotic cell interaction.

Characterization of genes for the biosynthesis of the compatible solute ectoine from Marinococcus halophilus and osmoregulated expression in Eschericia coli
Article Abstract:
The three types of genes namely, ectA, ectB, and ectC, responsible for the synthesis of ectoine from the Gram-positive halophile Marinococcus halophilus were identified and sequenced. Their osmoregulated expression in Escherichia coli was also investigated. Osmoregulatory sequences in M. halophilus was demonstrated to function also in E. coli. A deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) region upstream of ectA was found necessary for regulated expression of ectoine synthesis.

Osmotic regulation of cyclic 1,2-beta-glucan synthesis
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on the periplasmatic cyclic 1,2-beta-glucan in Brucella spp. Results indicate that the cyclic 1,2-beta-glucan synthetase has not been inhibited by 0.5 M KCl or potassium glutamate.
