Persistence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci in New Zealand broilers after discontinuation of Avoparcin use
Article Abstract:
The level of resistance to Tylosin, Zinc-bacitracin, Oligosaccharide antimicrobial avilamycin compounds and the prevalence and species distribution of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) in New Zealand poultry farms after the discontinuation of avoparcin is reported. The data from the studies illustrates that vancomycin -resistant Enterococcus Faecium continues in the absence and presence of vancomycin-selective pressure, explaining the dominance of VRE clone in the absence of avoparcin.

Antibiotic resistance patterns of enterococci and occurrence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci in raw minced beef and pork in Germany
Article Abstract:
The incidence of vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) in raw minced beef and pork in Germany is low, with the resistance patterns of the VRE isolates obtained different from those of clinical isolates. These were found in a screening of 555 samples from 115 batches of minced pork and beef from a meat-processing plant. These findings dispel notions that there is a link between the occurrence of VRE in raw minced meat and human nosocomial infections.
