Phylogenetic diversity of mesophilic and thermophilic granular sludges dtermined by 16S rRNA gene analysis
Article Abstract:
Two types of methanogenic granular sludge mesophilic and thermophilic, were compared for microbial diversity. PCR was used to construct 16S rDNA clone libraries. There was affiliation with the domain Archaea and the domain Bacteria. The 16S rDNA clones within the domain Archaea showed fairly close links with those of methanogens. The delta subclass of the Proteobacteria was a major group represented in the mesophilic clone library, with the Bacteria.

Comparative analysis of bacterial diversity in freshwater sediment of a shallow eutrophic lake by molecular and improved cultivation-based techniques
Article Abstract:
A comparative analysis of the bacterial diversity of freshwater sediment of a shallow eutrophic lake on the basis of 16S rRNA gene analysis and modified cultivation techniques that improved the culturability of hitherto known species present in the ecosystem is conducted. The effectiveness of using gellan gum as a gelling reagent in a culture-dependent analysis of bacterial diversity in freshwater sediment is also demonstrated.

"Mark the gene": a method for nondestructive introduction of marker sequences inside the gene frame of transgenes
Article Abstract:
A simple and effective method for directly marking functional transgenes in genetically modified (GM) organisms is proposed. No change was seen in the enzyme activity of translated proteins and the clear distinction of the constructed variation genes showed that nucleotide substitution (NS) markers could serve as product-specific tags for identifying individual GM organisms.
