Polycomb, Trithorax and the decision to differentiate
Article Abstract:
The Polycomb and Trithorax groups of proteins are vital to the very different natures of both stem cells and differentiated cells, but little is known about the way they make the transition from one cell type to the other. A demonstration that the Polycomb proteins dramatically change their behaviour at a crucial moment of differentiation is presented.

Stalk-eyed flies (Diopsidae): Modeling the evolution and development of an exaggerated sexual trait
Article Abstract:
Stalk-eyed flies of the Diopsidae show a unique form of hypercephaly, evolved under both natural and sexual selection. It is shown that genetic and cellular mechanisms similar to those of Drosophila melanogaster regulate the initial development of the head capsule in fruitflies and diopsids.

How does noncoding transcription regulate Hox genes?
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the evidences regarding the role of the noncoding transcripts in silencing or activation of Hox genes in Drosophila complexes is described. Current models based on data are analyzed, and alternative interpretations of the data are presented.
