Polyphosphate kinase of Acinetobacter sp. strain ADP1: purification and characterization of the enzyme and its role during changes in extracellular phosphate levels
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to purify and characterize the polyphosphate (polyP) kinase (PPK) of Acinetobacter sp strain ADP1, an organism that accumulates large amounts of polyP. Another objective was to investigate its role during changes in extracellular phosphate levels. Results indicate that the polyP metabolism of ADP1 is even more complicated. While phosphate starvation induces pppk expression and addition of phosphate represses gene expression, the net PPK activity that yields polyP from ATP seems to follow an opposite trend. The net PPPK activity rises sharply in response to an addition of excess phosphate.

Growth of polychlorinated-biphenyl-degrading bacteria in the presence of biphenyl and chlorobiphenyls generates oxidate stress and massive accumulation of inorganic polyphosphate
Article Abstract:
Large and abundant electron-dense granules at all stages of growth and a sift from glucose to biphenyl or chlorobiphenyls are observed by using transmission electron microscopy of the polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-degrading bacterium pseudomonas sp. strain B4 grown in defined medium with biphenyl as the sole carbon source.

The glycogen-bound polyphosphate kinase from Sulfolobus acidocaldarius is actually a glycogen synthase
Article Abstract:
The glycogen-bound 57-kDa protein in Sulfolobus acidocaldarius that is reported to be a polyphosphate kinase is actually a glycogen synthase. The recombinant protein has no similarity to any known polyphosphate kinase and only has glycogen synthase activity.
