Porin expression in clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae

Article Abstract:

Two porins, OmpK36 and OmpK35, have been previously isolated from Klebsiella pneumoniae, and they are homologous to the Escherichia coli porins OmpC and OmpF, respectively. Identification of the two porins revealed that most isolates lacking expression of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases express the two porins, while most isolates producing these beta-lactamases express only porin OmpK36, and the OmpK35 porin is either very low or not expressed.

Characterization of apxIVA, a new RTX determinant of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae

Article Abstract:

The complete cloning, sequencing, expression and characterization of two variants of a new RTX determinant, designated apxIVA(sub var1) and apxIVA(sub var3), from serotype 1 and 3 strains, respectively, are described. In both strains, the apxIVA genes are preceded by, and may be co-transcribed with, ORF1. Results indicate that ApxIVA may have an important role to play in the pathogenesis of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae.
