Power of a chromosomal test to detect genetic variation using genetic markers
Article Abstract:
Molecular marker technology has made it possible to use sophisticated statistical means to map quantitative trait loci (QTLs) in plants and animals. A backcross design used to detect variation of a genetic nature related to one chromosomal test to find genetic variation with use of genetic markers has been studied to evaluate its effectiveness. The phenotypic observations in a chromosomal test were regressed onto genotypic information from a number of markers. The method was used for line crosses, but can be applied to other populations, perhaps half-sib designs and four-way crosses.

Time to flowering in brown midrib mutants of maize: an alternative approach to the analysis of developmental traits
Article Abstract:
An alternate approach to analysis of developmental traits is discussed with information about a study of time-to-flowering in brown midrib mutants of maize. he The related mutations of maize affect lignin biosynthesis. Survival analysis, an accessible technique to improve inferences in cases where distributions are skewed or data missing/incomplete, was used to describe the distribution of times to flowering and compare differences between genotypic classes.

A multivariate approach to the problem of QTL localization
Article Abstract:
The problem of QTL localization has been addressed using a multivariate approach and with analysis of data from a maize drought resistance study as an example. The possibility of a natural generalization of regression methods used widely for the univariate situation has been explored and a practical mapping algorithm is described.
