Quantification of tetracycline resistance genes in feedlot lagoons by real-time PCR
Article Abstract:
A new real-time PCR method is presented that detects and quantifies three tetracycline resistance (Tc(super r)) genes in mixed microbial communities resident in feedlot lagoon wastewater. Tc(sub r) gene real-time TaqMan primer-probe sets are developed and optimized to quantify the Tc(super r) genes present in seven different cattle feedlot lagons and to assess whether resistance gene concentrations correlate with free-tetracycline levels in lagoon waters.

Frequency and distribution of tetracycline resistance genes in genetically diverse, nonselected, and nonclinical Escherichia coli strains isolated from diverse human and animal sources
Article Abstract:
Resistance towards tetracycline among the natural and unselected populations of Escherichia coli from animals and humans was examined so that the distribution of the resistance genes in the environment and an insight into the selection pressures involved with the use of antibiotics could be determined. The results suggested the presence of the selection pressures in the various hosts.

Diverse tetracycline resistance genotypes of megasphaera elsdenii strains selectively cultured from swine feces
Article Abstract:
The feces of organically raised swine is examined for tetracycline resistance genotypic and phenotypic traits. The procedure and results obtained are discussed.
