Quantitative genetics of response to competitors in Nemophila menziesii: a field experiment
Article Abstract:
Field experiment using a genetic design helps determine the genetic variability of the annual plant Nemophila menziesii in five biotic regimes of different plant density and composition. Field data support the existence of additive genetic tradeoffs between intraspecific and interspecific competitive performance. These experiments suggest methodological problems as the reasons for the failure of previous experiments to observe a genetically based tradeoff between performance in various biotic regimes.

Heterozygosity and fitness: no association in Scots pine
Article Abstract:
Three Pinus sylvestris populations were examined to evaluate quantitative traits related to fitness with heterozygosity for 12 allozyme loci. Earlier studies have designated heterozygote advantage or overdominance, linkage disequilibria and genotypic association as factors that supported the heterozygosity-fitness relation. However, minimal statistical and regression results failed to support such an association.

Comparison of FST between allozymes and morphological traits
Article Abstract:
Population differentiation estimates (FST) were obtained by evaluating allozymes, discrete and morphological traits in Clarkia dudleyana. Broad- and narrow-sense parameters were measured for the California wildflower. Minimal variation was observed between populations for the allozymes. However, some morphological traits generated FST estimates above those measured for the allozymes.
