Quantitative microbial risk assessment models for consumption of raw vegetables irrigated with reclaimed water
Article Abstract:
Quantitative microbial risk models are constructed for estimating the annual risk of enteric virus infection associated with consuming raw vegetables that are irrigated with nondisinfected secondary treated reclaimed water. Sensitivity analyses on the models have revealed that in most of the cases, variation in the amount of produce consumed had the most significant effect on the total uncertainty surrounding the estimate of annual infection risk.

Introduction of monochloramine into a municipal water system: Impact on colonization of buildings by Lagionella spp
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the water samples collected from the same buildings in Florida, between January and April 2002 when chlorine was used as a disinfectant, and between June and September 2002 immediately after monochloramine was introduced into the municipal water system. It was observed that the use of monochloramine into municipal drinking water could prevent the outbreak of Legionnaires' disease.

Synthetic statistical approach reveals a high degree of richness of microbial eukaryotes in an anoxic water column
Article Abstract:
A large protistan molecular survey from an anoxic water column in the Caraico Basin (Caribbean Sea) was studied. It was estimated that a single water column sample contains hundreds of different protistan populations and suggests that even multiple-primer approach and extensive sequencing failed to register up to 75% of species as well as up to 50% of clades of the highest taxonomic position.
