RAD51-independent break-induced replication to repair a broken chromosome depends on a distant enhancer site
Article Abstract:
RAD51-independent break-induced replication (BIR) for broken chromosome repair has been found to depend on a far-away enhancer site, and this is discussed in this research communication article dealing with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The distant site enhances assembly of a processive repair replication fork. RAD51-independent BIR is initiated more shan 13 ck from the double-strand break (DSB).

The interface of sigma with core RNA polymerase is extensive, conserved, and functionally specialized
Article Abstract:
The location and function of the interface of sigma, a subunit of eubacterial RNA polymerase, with core RNA polymerase has been studied, and results suggest the interface is extensive, since mutations in six conserved regions of sigma(super.70) are detrimental to ability of sigma to bind core. The interface is conserved and functionally specialized. It appears that sigma(super.70) family members use homologous residues, in part at least, to interct with core.
