Real-time detection of noroviruses in surface water by use of a broadly reactive nucleic acid sequence-based amplification assay
Article Abstract:
A real-time norovirus nucleic acid sequence-based amplification (NASBA) targeting part of the RNA-dependent was developed to study the effect of environmental inhibitors on the performance of NASBA. The combination of an efficient RNA extraction method with real-time NASBA, showed that the sensitivity of norovirus detection in water samples increased at least 100 times, which consequently has implications for outcome of the infectious risk assessment.

Presence of noroviruses and other enteric viruses in sewage and surface waters in the Netherlands
Article Abstract:
The numbers of particles containing norovirus and rotavirus RNA in two large rivers in the Netherlands are estimated by molecular methods and are compared with the numbers of infectious enterovirus and reovirus particles and bacteriophages in these surface waters. The presence of high levels of noroviruses in the surface waters might lead to public health hazards.

Reverse transcription-PCR analysis of bottled and natural mineral waters for the presence of noroviruses
Article Abstract:
A seminested reverse transcription-PCR method coupled to membrane filtration was optimized to investigate the presence of norovirus (NV) RNA sequences in bottled and natural mineral waters. Results however, do not provide any evidence for the presence of NV genome sequences in bottled waters.
