Regional differences in production of aflatoxin B1 and cyclopiazonic acid by soil isolates of Aspergillus flavus along a transect within the United States
Article Abstract:
There are significant differences in production of aflatoxin B1 and cyclopiazonic acid (CPA) by the L-strain soil isolates from Aspergillus flavus among regions along a transect extending from eastern New Mexico through Georgia to eastern Virginia. This was gleaned from an examination of soil isolates from A flavus to determine whether A flavus populations from different geographic regions differ in production of aflatoxin B1 and CPA.Results affirm the geographic differences found in production of aflatoxin B1 by A flavus in surveys conducted in Japan and in the US' cotton-growing areas.

Characterization of experimentally induced, nonaflatoxigenic variant strains of Aspergillus parasiticus
Article Abstract:
The mycelia and condiophores of the sec Aspergillus parasiticus strain fail to bioconvert aflatoxin pathways which are present with regulatory gene transcripts in the sec+ forms. As compared to the parental sec+ forms, the variant sec forms have numerous vegetative mycelia, decreased conidiophores and conidia, and abnormal metulae. The absence of aflatoxigenic abilities in the sec strain is associated with changes in the conidial morphology of the fungus, implying that the regulation of aflatoxigenesis and conidiogenesis are interlinked.
