Selective regulation of Bcl-XL by a Jak kinase-dependent pathway is bypassed in murine hematopoietic malignancies
Article Abstract:
Bcl-2 family proteins are important apoptosis regulators, serving as cell death antagonists or agonists. Among Bcl-2 family proteins tested, Bcl-XL was unique: its protein levels were carefully regulated by hemopoietins in primary and immortal myeloid progenitors. In mouse hematopoietic malignancies, there is no selective regulation of Bcl-XL by a Jak kinase-dependent pathway. Bcl-XL acts as a cytokine-regulated anti-apoptotic protein in myelopoiesis. It helps cells survive in leukemia.

Pom1p, a fission yeast protein kinase that provides positional information for both polarized growth and cytokinesis
Article Abstract:
Pom1p is a fission yeast protein kinase providing positional information for growth and cytokinesis mechanisms in Schizosaccharomyces pombe cells (S.pombe). It interacts with actin and microtubule cytoskeletons for the process. Mutants without pom1 have abnormalities which include cells initiating growth for old and new ends with equal frequency and cells misplacing their septa and having asymmetric cell division.
