Zebrafish make a big splash
Article Abstract:
The embryogenesis of zebrafish has been utilized to determine the effects of gene mutations on vertebrate embryonic development. Research on the genetic aspects of zebrafish development has improved data on the molecular mechanisms that mediate the animal's embryonic development. Genomic mapping of the zebrafish chromosome also led to the labelling of genes that affect neurogenesis and tissue/organ formation in the developing embryo.

Prox1 (ital) function is required for the development of the murine lymphatic system
Article Abstract:
Function of Prox1 (ital), a homeobox gene which is necessary for development of the murine lymphatic system, is discussed. The gene is expressed in a subpopulation of endothelial cells that give rise through budding and sprouting to the lymphatic system. The budding and sprouting is arrested in Prox1 (ital) null mice, but angiogenesis and vasculogenesis of the vascular system are not affected.
