Regulatory autonomy and molecular characterization of the Drosophila out at first gene
Article Abstract:
Transcription of the Drosophila out at first (oaf) gene adjacent to the dpp enhancer region leads to three groups of RNAs that are alternatively polyadenylated, with developmentally controlled-expression. Two open reading frames separated by a single UGA stop codon are present in all the oaf transcripts. Expression of oaf RNA during oogenesis in nurse cells contributes maternally to the egg. Zygotic transcription of the gene during embryonic development contributes to the development of central nervous system. Embryonic, larval and adult gonads of both sexes exhibit oaf expression.

Flamenco, a gene controlling the gypsy retrovirus of Drosophila melanogaster
Article Abstract:
The characterization of unstable strains, MG, reveals that the endogenous retrovirus, gypsy, is transposed at high frequency when controlled by the gene flamenco. The gypsy virus is known for its stability in the strains of Drosophila melanogaster, and its frequency of transposition is not detectable. The various types of mutations in the ovo and cut genes cause the high transposition frequency. These properties are caused by the mutations of the gene flamenco.
