Regulatory circuits controlling photosynthesis gene expression
Article Abstract:
Research into the synthesis of the bacterial photosystem of Rhodobacter capsulatus shows a complex regulatory circuitry that responds to changes in oxygen tension and light intensity. Synthesis of the light harvesting-I and reaction center complexes is located at the 46 kb region of the bacterium's 'photosynthesis gene cluster', which controls carotenoid and bacteriochlorophyll synthesis. Coupled with these biosynthetic gene systems are the control operons, such as the puf and puh operons, whose expression is triggered by oxygen and light conditions.

In vivo two-photon imaging reveals a role of arc in enhancing orientation specificity in visual cortex
Article Abstract:
The coding part of the neural activity-regulated immediate gene Arc was replaced with a GFP gene in mice in order to investigate cortical representations of visual information which are modified by an animal's visual experience. The visual experience was repeatedly monitored by in vivo two-photon microscopy which showed a physiological function of Arc in enhancing the overall orientation specificity of visual cortical neurons during post-eye-opening life of an animal.

Nuclear access and action of notch in vivo
Article Abstract:
The Notch gene of Drosophila codes for a transmembrane receptor that is responsible for the transduction of extracellular signals that dictate the fate of the cell. Signal transduction was shown to take place through the proteolytic cleavage of the cytosolic domain and subsequent translocation of the cleaved fragment to the nucleus where it participates in the activation of target genes.
