Relief of microRNA-mediated translational repression inhuman cells subjected to stress
Article Abstract:
A study demonstrates that cationic amino acid transporter 1 (CAT-1) messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) and reporters bearing its 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) can be relieved from the microRNA (miRNA) miR-122-induced inhibition in human hepatocarcinoma cells subjected to different stress conditions. Results show that the stress-induced upregulation is mediated by binding of HuR, an AU-rich element (ARE) binding protein, to the 3'UTR of CAT-1 mRNA.

RNAi: The nuts and bolts of the RISC machine
Article Abstract:
Combinations of biochemical, genetic, and structural approaches have provided new insights into the mechanism by which small, 21 nt long RNAs find their way into the RISC effector complexes. Details on how the RISCs execute their mission of RNA-guided posttranscriptional gene silencing are discussed.

Single processing center models for human Dicer and bacterial RNase III
Article Abstract:
Mutations are developed in the human Dicer and Escherichia coli RNase III residues and their effect on ribonucleic acid (RNA) processing is studied. Results indicate the presence of only one processing center, which contains two RNA cleavage sites.
