A molecular mousetrap determines polarity of termination of DNA replication in E. coli
Article Abstract:
The rates of dissociation of Tus from forked TerB oligonucleotides, which would be produced by the replicative DnaB helicase at both the fork-blocking and permissive ends of the Ter site, are measured to study the basis of polarity. The analysis has explained the mechanism of replication fork arrest at Tus bound Ter sites in the final stage of chromosomal DNA replication and has also revealed the stable interaction between a monomeric DNA binding protein and a forked DNA structure.

Comparative genomic analyses of the bacterial phosphotransferase system
Article Abstract:
A total of 202 genomes were screened for the presence of homologues of all currently known constituents of the bacterial phosphotransferase system (PTS). The results showed the frequent gain and loss of PTS protein-encoding genes and suggested that the lateral transfer of these genes within the bacterial domain played an important role in bacterial evolution.
