Multiplex PCR for detection and identification of lactococcal bacteriophages
Article Abstract:
Researchers describe a technique for detecting Lactococcus lactis phages in whey samples. These phages are an important cause of fermentation failure in the cheese industry.

Restriction/modification systems and restriction endonucleases are more effective on lactococcal bacteriophages that have emerged recently in the dairyindustry
Article Abstract:
The emergence in some cheese plants of a group of phages belonging to the lactococcal phage species P335 is discussed. Correlations were made between the number of restriction endonuclease site withthe in vivo sensitivity of the phages to lactococcal restriction/modification systems (R/M). A very important and universal lactococcal phage counterselection defense against R/M systems was presented by the paucity of restriction sites.

Monoclonal antibodies raised against native major capsid proteins of lactococcal c2-like bacteriophages
Article Abstract:
Two monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) that are specific to c2-like phages were produced to study whether MAbs can be used to detect bacteriophages in dairy plants and products. The two MAbs were characterized using immunoelectron microscopy and Western blot assays. Results show that the MAbs were raised against the native form of the major capsid protein of c2-like phages and are effective tools for detecting lactococcal phages.
