Role of nonhost environments in the lifestyles of Salmonella and Escherichia coli
Article Abstract:
This review examines how well Escherichia coli and Salmonella adapt to nonhost environments such as ecosystems, soil, water and animals. Research findings indicate that while E. coli that are shed from a mammalian host mostly find themselves at a dead end, Salmonella finds its way into new hosts and can infect a wide variety of animals. E. coli is only found in certain tropical ecosystems.

For the insect pathogen Photorhabdus luminescens, which end of a nematode is out?
Article Abstract:
Research shows that the nematode heterorhabditis bacteriophora regurgitates its symbiotic bacteria, Photorhabdus luminescens, during the pathogenesis of the insect larvae. Data indicate that a low-molecular-weight, heat stable, and protease resistant factor in the hemolymph or insect culture fluids elicits regurgitation.

A metalloprotease secreted by the insect pathogen Photorhabdus luminescens induces melanization
Article Abstract:
The melanization reaction induced by a Photorhabdus protein in the insects Manduca sexta, Drosophila melanogaster, and Galleria mellonella is reported. The Photorhabdus protein is identified to be a product of a gene that belongs to the M4 metalloprotease family.
