Ryanodine receptor expression in embryonic avian cardiac muscle
Article Abstract:
The presence and oligomeric form of the ryanodine receptor during embryonic development of the avian heart were investigated. Using anti-receptor monoclonal antibodies and 3H-ryanodine binding, a single isoform of the receptor was identified in both adult and embryonic cardiac tissue from days 4 to 20 of development. The ryanodine receptor assumes a tetrameric structure capable of forming functional calcium release channel that participates in excitation-contractions coupling. Furthermore, chonotropic effects in the very early embryonic heart may be determined by ryanodine receptor functions.

CD44 positive macrophages take up hyaluronan during lung development
Article Abstract:
The expression and distribution of both hyaluronan and its cell-surface receptor, CD44, during lung development in mouse were investigated. Hyaluronan amounts relative to protein content were found to decrease as lung development progressed. In contrast, the accumulation of CD44 increased. Further characterization of the localization of these molecules suggest that macrophages, which express CD44, internalize hyaluronan during lung development. This interaction may also lead to the removal of macrophages from developing lungs.

Expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and PDGF alpha- and beta-receptors in the peripheral nervous system: an analysis of sciatic nerve and dorsal root ganglia
Article Abstract:
Dorsal root ganglia and sciatic nerve of the peripheral nervous sytem (PNS) were studied to examine the expression of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and and PDGF alpha- and beta-receptors. High level expression of PDGF were detected in neonatal rat dorsal root ganglia and sciatic nerve. The receptors, on the other hand, were highly expressed in neonatal rat PNS. The findings indicate that PDGF play a role in the development of the PNS and in maintenance of peripheral neurons.
