Separation of marine bacteria according to buoyant density by use of the density-dependent cell sorting method
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine whether some phylogenetic groups of natural marine bacteria have unique buoyant densities that allow them to be separated by the density-dependent cell sorting (DDCS) method. The cells of Archaea tended to appear in the high-density fraction, whereas those of Ctyophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroides were in the low-density fraction.

Nitrogen fixation by Vibrio parahaemolyticus and its implications for a new ecological niche
Article Abstract:
The characterization of a Vibrio parahaemolyticus strain isolated from the rhizosphere of the ecosystem dominant estuarine grass, Spartina alterniflora was presented. It was shown to carry nifH, the gene encoding the nitrogenase iron protein and to fix nitrogen that might contribute significantly to ecology of Vibrio parahaemolyticus.
