Sex-biased host selection and success of kleptoparasitic behavior of the Great Frigatebird in the northwestern Hawaiian islands
Article Abstract:
Avian kleptoparasitism is studied. The study of foraging frigatebirds between June and August 1991 on East Islands reveals that female Great Frigatebirds continue to chase Masked Boobies although there success rate was only 4.0%. A possible reason for this is that they might be feeding on a variable ratio schedule. The sex bias of host selection and the success rate in kleptoparasitic robberies by the Great Frigatebirds of Wedge-tailed Shearwaters and Masked Boobies is studied and the rates of success between individual and group robberies is compared.

Kleptoparasitic behavior of the Magnificent Frigatebird: sex bias and success
Article Abstract:
A study of the kleptoparasitic behavior of the Magnificent Frigatebird (Fregata magnificens) was conducted at Isla Isabel, Mexico from 1985 to 1987. Frigatebirds were observed, near their breeding grounds, chasing and attacking Blue-footed Boobies in order to steal food from them. The study showed that female and juvenile frigatebirds were the primary chasers. Male frigatebirds avoided attacks near their breeding grounds. Group attacks were found to be more effective than individual chases. No seasonal variation in behavior was noticed.

The diet of the Magnificent Frigatebird during chick rearing
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the diet of the Magnificent Frigatebird during the rearing of chicks. A study of 158 regurgitates found that the diet included 2 species of crustacean, 1 species of squid and 50 species of fish.
