Singing for your supper: acoustical luring of avian prey by northern shrikes
Article Abstract:
An observation of northern shrikes was made to ascertain if these predatory songbirds lure their prey acoustically. Findings revealed that the song of northern shrikes indeed act not just as a mate attractant and territory signal but also as a way to entice their avian prey. Little passerines came near the source of the shrike song. They came more quickly and more closely than when sounds from the American robin and the control were heard. The passerines can be a major source of food for northern shrikes.

Hunting association between the aplomado falcon (Falco femoralis) and the maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyrus) in Emas National Park, Central Brazil
Article Abstract:
An observation of the hunting relationships between the aplomado falcons and maned wolf was conducted in Brazil's Emas National Park. Findings revealed that the falcons had a 25% success in their hunting efforts. The association between the two animals was found to be beneficial to the birds that prey on tinamous that the wolf's attack misses. The falcon is able to catch its prey in flight once it is driven by the wolf from tall dense grass.

Is foot squeezing pressure by two raptor species sufficient to subdue their prey?
Article Abstract:
The food squeezing pressure exerted by Common Buzzards and Eurasian Kestrels while grabbing a rodent was measured. Findings showed that the depredated mice were killed through suffocation from the grasp of the birds of prey. The two raptor species differed in the method of constricting the mouse. The buzzard depended on strong but very brief squeezing bouts while the kestrel had less strength but used longer duration.
