It's prime time for reverse transcriptase
Article Abstract:
Reverse transcriptases (RTs) have a significant role in the propagation of several genetic elements. They duplicate the RNA genomes of retroviruses and long terminal repeat transposons into double stranded DNA that has to be integrated into the host genome to ensure proliferation. Long Interspersed Nucleotide Element-like materials are non-long terminal repeat retrotransposons that also require RT.

Systemic spread of sequence-specific transgene RNA degradation in plants is initiated by localized introduction of ectopic promoterless DNA
Article Abstract:
Transgene-homologous DNA fragments were introduced to initiate systemic, posttranscriptional silencing of transgenes in Nicotiana benthamiana. A relay mechanism using plasmodesmatal and phloem channels is involved in the sequence-specific signal of gene silencing spread from cells receiving ectopic DNA. The mechanism may have a role in developmental control as well as a protective role.

Can DNA topoisomerases be ribonucleases?
Article Abstract:
The modulation of DNA topology and RNA processing appears to be disparate, although data reported by Sekiguchi and Shuman, shows that mechanisms of RNA strand scission has similarities with that used to module DNA topology. Evidence is provided that the vaccinia topoisomerase-mediated RNase reactivity needs an active site tyrosine and a ribonucleotide at the cleavage site.
