Soil and sediment bacteria capable of aerobic nitrate respiration
Article Abstract:
The isolation of 23 strains of bacteria that respire nitrate in the presence of oxygen and their presence in significant numbers in different soils and freshwater sediment suggests that aerobic nitrate respiration has a significant role in the environmental nitrogen cycle. Twenty-two strains were from the genera Pseudomonas, Aeromonas, or Moraxella, and all of these had a nitrate reductase with a periplasmic active site. The remaining strain was from the gram-positive genus Arthrobacter.

Heterologous expression of heterotrophic nitrification genes
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the cloning of the heterotrophic nitrification genes from Paracoccus denitrificans and their expression in the heterologous hosts Pseudomonas putida and Methylobacterium extorquens AM1. The findings indicate that the P denitrificans ammonia monooxygenase can oxidize methane to methanol. Moreover, the toxicity of the heterotropic nitrification genes depends on the activity of the gene products of M extorquens as well as the expression and activity in Ps putida.

Effect of carbon substrate and aeration on nitrate reduction and expression of the periplasmic and membrane-bound nitrate reductases in carbon-limited continuous cultures of Paracoccus denitrificans Pd1222
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted on the expression and in situ activity of the membrane-bound and periplasmic nitrate reductases in carbon-limited continuous cultures of Paracoccus denitrificans Pd1222. The findings indicate that the nature of the carbon substrate and oxygen concentration can affect the expression of the periplasmic and membrane-bound nitrate reductases.
