P-TEFb kinase recruitment and function at heat shock loci
Article Abstract:
Heat shock loci and P-TEFb kinase recruitment and function at these loci are discussed. It has been shown that P-TEFb is at more than 200 distinct sites on Drosophila polytene chromosomes. A model in which P-TEFb acts as a stimulus for promoter-paused Pol II to enter into productive elongation is proposed.

Spt5 and Spt6 are associated with active transcription and have characteristics of general elongation factors in D. melanogaster
Article Abstract:
Spt5 and Spt6 have been found to be associated with active transcription and have characteristics of general elongation factors in Drosophila melanogaster. Drosophila homologs of Spt5 and Spt6 have been identified. Their localization on Drosophila polytene chromosomes was studied.

Different upstream transcriptional activators have distinct coactivator requirements
Article Abstract:
Upstream transcriptional activators have specific coactivator requirements recent research exploring the mechanism of Srb4-independent CUP1 transcription has shown. The differential effects of Srb4 or Taf17 on transcriptional activation by upstream activation domains were studied. The effects on the activation caused by artificially recruiting subunits of the SRB/mediator to the CUP1 promoter were also of interest. Transcriptional activation by different natural activators and by artificial recruitment of various transcription factors had very different degrees of Srb4 independence. Analysis of an rgr1 mutant and other data indicate an Rgr1 subcomplex of the SRB/mediator to be the mechanistic route of activation by Srb4-independent activators in vivo.
