The carboxyl terminus of the Bacillus subtilis SecA is dispensable for protein secretion and viability
Article Abstract:
The carboxyl terminus of the Bacillus subtilis SecA has been found to be not necessary for protein secretion and viability.In E coli the situation is not the same. Deletion of the region brings aberrrant expression of intracellular and secreted proteins and a response like that seen with oxidative stress. The role of the C-terminus of the B. subtilis SecA has been studied to find out whether the region is involved in binding of a previously unidentified homolog or analog of the E. coli SecB.

T4 early promoter strength probed in vivo with unribosylated and ADP-ribosylated Escherichia coli RNA polymerase: a mutation analysis
Article Abstract:
Positions introduced into the Escherichia coli Ptac promoter make the mutant promoter responsive to Alt-ADP-ribosylated RNA polymerase, like T4 early promoters. The help with acceleration of transcription, the ADP-ribosylated enzyme must have integrity of several regions and also of position -33 and, more important, maintenance of the upstream promoter element at -42. To see which promoter elements help in increasing transcriptional activity directed at phage genes the very strong E. coli promoter, Ptac, was sequentially mutated toward the sequence of the T4 early promoter consensus.

Dimensional regulation of cell-cycle events in Escherichia coli during steady-state growth
Article Abstract:
Cell-cycle events and their dimensional regulation have been studied in Escherichia coli during steady-state growth of individual cells. Of the two models, the Length model and the Volume model, proposed in the past to describe the changes in the shape of E. coli cells, the Length model was supported by the study. Length, not volume, appears to be the controlling dimension, at least relative to some cell-cycle events.
