TRP1 mediates the inflammatory actions of environmental irritants and proalgesic agents
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that TRPA1, an excitatory ion channel that is the sole target through which mustard oil and garlic activate primary afferent nociceptors to produce inflammatory pain using TRPA1-deficient mice is presented. While the results obtain do not support a requirement for this channel in the initial detection of cold or sound, they clearly demonstrate a role for TRPA1 in mechanisms of neurogenic inflammation and pain hypersensitivity.

A neuropeptide courier for sigma-opioid receptors
Article Abstract:
The delta-opioid receptor and the precursor protein of a neuropeptide, substance P, are colocalized in the large dense-core vesicles of pain-sensing neurons. The trafficking of the delta-opioid receptor to these vesicles depends on its physical interaction with the substance P domain of its precursor polyprotein, suggesting a new role for peptide precursors as sorting signals in vesicular transport.

A Nobel for smell
Article Abstract:
The sense of smell in human beings is one of the most important senses as it helps humans to distinguish between various odors. Various experiments are conducted to understand this unique gift that human's possess, and the year 2004's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine awarded to Linda Buck and Richard Axel is a tribute to the efforts of all scientists involved in these researches.
