The 25 degrees-36 degrees region of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome: determination of the sequence of a 146 kb segment and identification of 113 genes
Article Abstract:
The 146 kb segment in the 25 degrees-36 degrees region of Bacillus subtilis chromosome was sequenced by constructing overlapping genomic libraries of short deoxyribonucleic acid fragments by sonic oscillation. The region contains 113 open reading frames (ORFs) in which 33 ORFs were already classified. The amino acid sequence of 13 of the ORFs are similar to known protein sequences. Furthermore, the 146 kb region contains genes that mediate the metabolism and transport of proteins and organic acids.

A 10 kb nucleotide sequence at the 5' flanking region (32 degrees) of srfAA of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome
Article Abstract:
Analysis of the nucleotide sequence of nearly 10 kb at the 5' flanking region of srfAA of Bacillus subtilis chromosome reveals the presence of 11 putative open reading frames (ORFs). Three of them are identical to the B. subtilis competence-specific protein-encoding comJ gene, DNA-entry nuclease-encoding comI gene and the transducer-like protein-encoding tlpc gene. Gene products of two other ORFs resemble beta-glucosidase A of Bacillus polymyxa and GlnP of Escherichia coli.

A 32 kb nucleotide sequence from the region of the lincomycin-resistance gene (22o-25o) of the Bacillus subtilis chromosome and identification of the site of the lin-2 mutation
Article Abstract:
Genetic research has established a 32 kb nucleotide sequence in the region of the lincomycin-resistance gene located from the 22 degrees to 25 degrees on the Bacillus subtilis organism chromosome. It contains six putative ORFs: L-asparaginase precursor; protein aspartate phosphatase; alpha-glucosidase; two tellurite-resistance proteins and a hypothetical protein from B. subtilis. The lin-2 mutation side is established within the sequence.
