The developmentally restricted pattern of expression in the male germ line of a murine cyclin A, cyclin A2, suggests roles in both mitotic and meiotic cell cycles
Article Abstract:
The developmental regulation of the expression of a murine cyclin gene, designated cyclin A2, was investigated in vivo in both mitotic and meiotic cell cycles of the male germ line. A markedly high level of cellular specificity of expression was observed in the spermatogonia and in the preleptotene spermatocytes at the level of both mRNA and protein. It is suggested that concurrent localization of cyclin A2 is due to the regulation of transcription during mitosis, while the restricted cellular specificity is due to the regulation of expression in the meiotic stage.

The distinct and developmentally regulated patterns of expression of members of the mouse Cdc25 gene family suggest differential functions during gametogenesis
Article Abstract:
Mouse germ cell development was used to study the genetic program for the mammalian mitotic and meiotic cell cycles. The murine homologues of the human Cdc25B and Cdc25C transcripts of the Cdc25 genes showed cellular, developmental and organ specificity in the activity of these transcripts. Cdc25C was found mainly in the testis and localized in the germ cells and Cdc25B was found mainly in the somatic cells. In the ovary Cdc25C was found mainly in the cumulus granulosa cells and Cdc25B was found in the growing oocytes and the somatic cells.

Developmental regulation of genomic imprinting during gametogenesis
Article Abstract:
Genomic imprinting during gametogenesis results in offspring inheritance of only one functional copy of a gene from either parent. A study showed that developmental regulation affects the establishment of parent-specific imprints in isoparental embryos. Imprint switching altered expression of parental alleles and caused modification of the inherited imprint. The mechanisms of imprinting of genes in the testes and ovaries of mice derived from the interspecies cross between Mus musculus and Mus spretus are presented.
