The genetic analysis of snf: a Drosophila sex determination gene required for activation of sex-lethal in both the germline and the soma
Article Abstract:
The Drosophila sex-lethal (Sxl) gene is a binary switch gene which determines the sex-specific developmental pathways. Previous investigations have also identified another gene, snas-fille (snf), as also involved in sex determination. Further characterization of snf showed that it is a positive regulator of Sxl. It functions as an activator for Sxl both in the early embryo and in the germline. However, large scale screens to isolate new snf alleles were not productive, indicating that snf is not essential for Sxl activation in the early embryo.

The Drosophila sex determination gene snf is utilized for the establishment ofthe female-specific splicing pattern of sex-lethal
Article Abstract:
Researches, proved that in a predominantly wild-type setting female homozygous for a feeble Drosophila snf gene mutation generate male and female progeny, but when mated to males hemizygeous for a null allele of sex determination gene sex-lethal generate only male progeny because of the abnormal sex-lethal regulation in late embryogenesis. The wild-type product of snf in crucial in determining the female-specific RNA pattern of sex-lethal.

Genetic characterization of small ovaries, a gene required in the soma for the development of the Drosophila ovary and the female germline
Article Abstract:
A study of the soma germline interaction through the analysis of the small ovaries (sov) gene of Drosophila that is essential for the generation of the somatic ovary and the growth of the female germline reveals that both processes require the sov gene expression. Somatic sex determination genes control the ovary-specific sov function. A group of interactions between the germline and somatic tissues is facilitated by the sov gene.
