The immunoreactive 116 kDA surface protein of Mycoplasma pneumoniae is encoded in an operon
Article Abstract:
A research on mycoplasma pneumoniae and the antigenicity of its 100-116 kDA polypeptides was conducted. The polypeptides' possible role in adhesion to tracheal cells were also considered. The clinical methodology of subjecting sera from patients infected with m. pneumoniae under western blot analysis and nucleotide sequencing were primarily used. Findings showed that the 16 kDA and 116 kDA proteins in the DNA transcript were present. This indicate their inclusion in the operon's chemical make-up and also implies their functional association.

Mycoplasma hominis expresses two variants of a cell-surface protein, one a lipoprotein, and one not
Article Abstract:
It is established that Mycoplasma hominis PG21 has a novel gene family following the identification of the P120' protein. P120' was found to have a putative start codon of GTC and a coding regional with high G+C content. The p120 and p120' genes were localized in two separate regions, with genes and proteins corresponding to P120' identified in 24/24 M.

Defining the mycoplasma 'cytoskeleton' : the protein composition of the Triton X-100 insoluble fraction of the bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae determined by 2-D gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry
Article Abstract:
Results show that the 'Triton X-100 insoluble fraction' contains components of a bacterial cytoskeleton-like structure. Mass-spectrometric and 2-dimensional electrophoretic analyses reveal the presence of several proteins belonging to various functional and structural categories with the heat-shock protein DnaK being the most prevalent.
