The long journey home
Article Abstract:
African scientists had to work in under-resourced laboratories with old equipment in the past few years and students were trained in old laboratories resulting in brain drain. However, African governments are taking action and while some countries have full-fledged science ministries, 40 countries have organized themselves to form African Ministerial Council on Science and Technology (AMCOST), and have pledged their support to boost science and technology across the continent.

The concept of focusing Africa's science on African problems prevails across the continent
Article Abstract:
African Union and the New Economic Partnership for African Development (NEPAD) are spearheading the importance of scientific research in Africa, establishing regional networks in the North, East, West and South of the continent. Four existing centers are chosen to act as regional hubs which will make scarce equipment and intellectual resources more widely available throughout each region so as to spread capacity and transfer knowledge.
