Thermophilic carbon-sulfur-bond-targeted biodesulfurization
Article Abstract:
Two thermophilic bacterial strains that could desulfurize dibenzothiopenes (DBT) and its by-products have been isolated for the first time. The bacteria have been identified as Paenibacillus strains and were isolated using a screening technique that excludes C-C-bond-targeting bacteria. Sulfur atoms in the form of sulfur ions are released once the bacteria starts to degrade DBT. The total sulfur content of light gas oil is also decreased once the bacteria are incubated at 50 degrees Centigrade.

Identification of novel benzoylformate decarboxylases by growth selection
Article Abstract:
A selection system is constructed for the identification of three novel benzoylformate decarboxylases, two of them originating from a chromosomal library of Pseudomonas putida ATCC 12633 and the third from an environmental-DNA library. The results have shown that Pseudomonas putida KT2440 is an appropriate selection host strain that is suitable for identifying novel benzoylformate decarboxylase-encoding genes, as well as a broad range of different industrially important enzymes.

Biodesulfurization in biphasic systems containing organic solvents
Article Abstract:
Biphasic systems are exploited for biocatalysis and can overcome the problem of low productivity in conventional media. A significant step in exploring the biotechnological potential of novel biocatalysis to develop an efficient biodesulfurization process in biphasic reaction mixtures containing toxic organic solvents is studied.
