Through the looking glass: axon guidance at the midline choice point
Article Abstract:
Several factors allow axons to migrate and coordinate long distances in a typical body plan. Roundabout are regulated by the gene commissureless to imply a general mechanism that allows axons to tell which side of the body they are on. Direct cell contact also aid axon navigation. They bind and express on commissural axons and on the spinal cord plate. Moreover, midline crossing options may be involved in repellent cues as mutations remove or disrupt the floor plate resulting in many axons crossing.

Slit branches out: a secreted protein mediates both attractive and repulsive axon guidance
Article Abstract:
The identification of Slit as a multifunctional axon guidance factor is anticipated to promote novel findings concerning Slit signaling pathways, phenotypes of slit knockout mice and receptors for attractive Slit signals. It is suggested that the geometry of Slit-expressing zones in the brain and spinal cord may be able to determine the trajectories of axon pathways in three dimensions. In addition, Slit function may be regulated by activity to support the formation of cortical connections.

Role of a new Rho family member in cell migration and axon guidance in C. elegans
Article Abstract:
The functions of a new Rho family member in C.elegans was investigated, through analysis of mutations in the endogenous gene. The protein is needed for cell migration in vivo, and only a few of the migrations inhibited by activating mutations are inhibited by null mutations, indicating functional redundancy within the system. Mig-2 was found to function redundantly with another pathway, regulating nuclear migration.
