"Tie-ing" down the hematopoietic niche
Article Abstract:
The interaction of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) with their particular microenvironment, or niche, is critical for adult hematopoiesis in the bone marrow (BM), and it is demonstrated that HSCs that express the receptor tyrosine kinase Tie2 are quiescent. The data suggest that the Ang-1/Tie2 signaling pathway plays a crucial role in the maintenance of HSCs in a quiescent state in the BM niche.

Tie2/Angiopoietin-1 signaling regulates hematopoietic stem cell quiescence in the bone marrow niche
Article Abstract:
The hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) expressing the receptor tyrosine kinase Tie2 are quiescent and antiapoptotic, and comprise a side-population (SP) of HSCs, which adhere to osteoblasts (OBs) in the bone marrow (BM) niche is demonstrated. It is suggested that the Tie2/Angiopoietin-1 signaling pathway plays a critical role in the maintenance of HSCs in a quiscent state in the BM niche.

Nervous activity in s stem cell niche
Article Abstract:
A new regulatory axis for the mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells that links the cells to the nervous system and bone in an unanticipated way is presented. The findings suggest that the nervous system is a key, which has the inherent ability to integrate information from throughout the organism, may govern the local relationship between stem cells and their niches.
