To self, or not to self... A review of outcrossing and pollen-mediated gene flow in neotropical trees
Article Abstract:
The studies on the correlation between the ecological and phylogenetic factors on mating systems and pollen dispersal for neotropical trees are reviewed. Results conclude that self-fertilization of the species is inversely proportional to population density of the trees displayed high outcrossed mating in hermaphroditic species and for species pollinated by bats or small insects, pollen dispersal is widely prevalent in sparsely dense tropical trees.

Effects of variation in herkogamy on outcrossing within a population of Gilia achilleifolia
Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of anther-stigma separation is evaluated in controlling variation in the level of outcrossing among plants in a population of Gilia achilleifolia. The effect of herkogamy on outcrossing rate in delayed selfers such as Gilia achilleifolia may be particularly prominent when pollinator availability is low.
